Kazakhstan’s Government decides to finance KazKommertsbank and Halyk Bank through placing deposits |

The Kazakhstan’s Government has decided to place deposits of USD 300 million and USD 500 million with Kazkommertsbank and Halyk Bank respectively as early as next week. The money will further be converted into tier 1 capital. This was announced today by Mr. Kairat Kelimbetov, head of the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, at the ceremony of signing of respective agreements between the Fund, the mentioned above banks and their major shareholders. |

This was announced by Agriculture Minister Akylbek Kurishbayev January 14 at the Ministry’s sitting. Grain export potential reached 6 million tons. According to the Minister, gross agricultural output growth made up 17%, with a rise in capital investment by 21% and in average monthly wages by 22% [on 2007]. |

An official opening of the Year of Kazakhstan in Germany is scheduled 3 February in the frames of President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s visit to the country. According to Yerjan Ashikbayev, RK MFA official about 100 actions are to be held there. Political meetings of high level, economic forums, cultural, educational and other projects, targeting development of bilateral links are among the scheduled events. |

At a Government’s sitting January 13, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection Berdibek Saparbayev reported to the government on the current state of the labor market: as of January 1, 2009, 25 enterprises employing over 7000 people have suspended their operations. A special working group has been set up to retrain the employees made redundant and create temporary jobs. To protect the domestic labor market, the quota of imported workforce has been reduced twice as compared to 2008. |
